Farewell of the White Wolf: Epilogue of Geralt’s Story
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was such a masterpiece. It forever marked all of us, who have spent hundreds of hours enjoying Geralt’s adventures. This fan-made mod is going to offer us an ending, a closure, a wedding! One final adventure in the world of The Witcher.
According to the creators of the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – the polish company CD Projekt Red – the events from the third game’s second expansion, called Blood and Wine” are the definitive ending of Geralt’s story as far as the studio is concerned. After finishing it, you certainly have felt like a giant hole has opened inside you. Sadly, no more Witcher video games are planned (for now?!) and there is nothing you can use to fill that emptiness.
But, wait. Here are some good news!
A group of four enthusiasts is currently working on a mod that will present us with an epilogue to the story of the famous witcher Geralt of Rivia. The mod is using the second game’s engine and will be available to all fans and players for free. The mod has been under development by the four guys for over two years. It is available thanks to “The Red Kit” – a fully functional official mod tool, released by CD Projekt Red for the second Witcher game. TVGry had a chat with the four guys, who revealed interesting details about the mod and its development. You can watch parts of the interview here.
So, what can we expect from the story?
The ending you might have always wanted, especially if you are a fan of Sapkowski’s Books too, is the main topic of the new story here. The mod will show and tell of Geralt and Yennefer’s wedding. Sorry, Team-Triss. The Books Lore wins in this situation. The adventure in the mod is inspired bySapkowski’s short story “Something ends, something begins“. This is also the name of the final quest of the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (the core game).
The Geralt and Yennefer 3-day wedding is the central event for this mod. The first day is about the bachelor party (lots of drinking, as can be expected!). The second day focuses more on the wedding ceremony. In the third day you will get to say a heart-breaking goodbye not just to friends, but to Geralt too as the epilogue takes you into the distant future. Every single character’s story arc will be completed and, as the modders have said it themselves – all players should feel satisfied.
It goes without saying that in this mod you will meet many famous and beloved characters from the witcher lore and universe. However, some new characters will also make an appearance, like Eskel’s new companion – Bjarne from the School of the Bear.
“Something ends, something begins” is a non-canonical short story, written by Sapkowski, but the modders have decided to include elements of it here as well.
The technical part
The Witcher 2: Assassin’s engine is quite old now, but the visuals, as you will notice from the video below, are still very good and appealing to the eye. The dark witcher-like atmosphere of the second game is still present here. While technically the engine is from the second game, all of the incredibly rich witcher world has given inspiration to outfits, locations and design over all.
Importing characters from the third game was no easy task, but the four guys have done it and based on the demo, they have done a fantastic job. It’s not as easy as taking one character from the latest game and importing it directly into the mod tool. The making of Kaer Morhen alone took over 600 hours. The total amount of work from all four modders, as they admit to tvgry.pl, was several thousand hours.
The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings was known to have a more static camera. For this mod, though, the team has put a huge effort to create more realistic movements and simulate the Witcher 3’s dialogues style.
The engine might be old, but it will still surprise you with new innovations and introductions of modern technology, such as hair movement, that was originally brought to the series with Wild Hunt.
What about THE GAMEPLAY?
There will be several mini stories and this is where the freedom to go anywhere and do anything comes. The fighting moments are also very intense and Geralt’s dance-like movements are just as stunning as always.
The creators have shared a 20-minute long video, showing the beginning of this adventure. There is no voice-over and it is not planned to be available, at least not for now. The project is still work in progress, but the visuals will likely not change. The soundtrack used is the original score from The Witcher game series, created by CD Projekt Red.
You can follow the development progress on the project’s Facebook page. I am very eager to see this completed. Judging by the amount of time this project has been in development, it is clear that it will not be an easy task and there’s still work to be done before it is completed, but I have no doubts it will be a great experience for all of us Witcher fans.
Farewell of the White Wolf.»
Farewell of the White Wolf”(закадровый голос и субтитры на английском языке, в настройках к видео можно заказать мгновенный перевод субтитров).
Facebook.
